NEKO CASE Neko claims no genre, nor utilizes any classic formula for her songs and singing. More than anything she thrives in the spaces in between her music. As with the highest art, the negative space should be calculated, too. What isnt readily seen also carries its own weightan articulated emptiness, a space defined and made human by whatever has sought to confine it; and while her artistic integrity may never have been in doubt, on Fox Confessor Brings The Flood Neko has again shown how capable she is of accessing her best instincts to forge something meaningful with words and sounds--a record thats confessional, poignant, and, ultimately, an honest representation of where she is today. OZOMATLI In their eighteen years together as a band, celebrated Los Angeles culture-mashers Ozomatli have gone from hometown heroes to being named U.S. State Department Cultural Ambassadors. Ozomatli has always juggled two key identities: they are the voice of their city and they are citizens of the world. Their music – a notorious urban-Latino-and-beyond collision of hip hop and salsa, dancehall and cumbia, samba and funk, merengue and comparsa, East LAR&B and New Orleans second line, Jamaican ragga and Indian raga – has long followed a key mantra: it will take you around the world by taking you around L.A. THE WILD FEATHERS Ricky Young, Joel King, Taylor Burns and Preston Wimberly, grew up steeped in music; playing solo gigs, touring with local bands and working at venues. The four guys came together in Austin in 2010 through coincidence, mutual friends, and a shared love of the classics: Petty, Dylan, Cash, The Band, Allman Bros, Neil Young and Willie Nelson. They immediately began playing together and became The Wild Feathers. The young band spent the next year writing and defining their sound and touring around the country, sharing the stage with Delta Spirit, Surfer Blood and The Heavy, even landing an opening spot on Paul Simon's 2011 fall tour. TOM ODELL At the age of 20, having recently made the move from the shores of Brighton to the streets of London, Tom Odell is already beginning to carve out a trail of press in his wake. “My Band Is Better Than Your Band”is just one of the blogs alight with excitement over Tom Odell’s musical intimacy and emotion. And with comparisons already being made to “Madman Across The Water”era Elton John meets James Blake, it’s no wonder why Tom and his passionate flair and talent for writing poignant, piano-based music is causing such a stir.
